capital fm star aims to help children shine as sparkles new patron

Capital FM star Polly James is the new patron of the Welsh children’s charity Sparkle.

The host of South Wales’ biggest radio breakfast show will use her role to help promote the work of the charity, which supports and provides funding for the Serennu Children’s Centre in Newport. Polly said:

“When I visited the Serennu Children’s Centre, I genuinely felt thankful that there was a place like this for my friend’s children and my children in the future if we ever needed a facility like it. It must put you at immense ease as a mother or father to know that Sparkle and the Serennu Centre is there for them.

When I met parents at the centre, they said Sparkle was a Godsend and the thought of it not being there was just unthinkable. The highlights for me were the children of course, but also the facilities inside the centre. The cinema, the hydro pool and the self-contained flat for the older kids who can learn to make a cup of tea, lay a table, do the washing up, all things we take for granted.

I'm excited to get on board with Sparkle and start to arrange events and raise money, I will make it my mission to make more people aware of the charity and centre.”
