Queens School reunion raises £938 for Sparkle

A reunion for the members of Queens Comprehensive School, organised by past pupils Annette Smith, Jo Morse, Joyce Bowen and Jim Bowles has raised a whopping £938 for Sparkle.

Over 180 previous pupils attended the reunion which took place at Baneswell Social Club in Newport on 12th July 2014. Ex pupils came from far and wide to attend the event with guests from Derbyshire, Southampton, Torquay and even Singapore!

Ms Smith said, “This is the first time for me to be heavily involved in helping to organise the reunion. I heard of the Sparkle Appeal through my job with Public Health Wales, so chose the charity to benefit from the profits as our schools were closed a long time ago. I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who helped me to organise the event, as well as all the ex-pupils, local business and members of the Bowen family who donated prizes for the raffle.”

Sparkle Trustee, Joan Sheppard attended the event to draw the raffle and tell people more about the work of Sparkle. Joan said, “Annette obviously worked very hard in organising this event, the place was absolutely heaving! On behalf of the other Trustees, and all the children and young people and their families we would like to congratulate Annette of course thank her for this incredible donation.”
