Residential 2017

Sparkle are excited to announce that the plans have been confirmed for the 2017 Overnight Residential Experiences.

This year there are 3 different options:

Trip 1 – One-night stay from 11th to the 12th August

Trip 2 – One-night stay from 12th to the 13th August

Trip 3 – Four-night stay from 14th to the 18th August.

Criteria for applying for a space on the residential experiences are:

• The young person is currently attending Sparkle activities.

• The young person is aged 12+ when the one night overnight

experience commences.

• The young person is 16+ when the four night experience

commences.

Priority in the first instance will be given to children who haven’t been on a residential trip with Sparkle in the last 2 years, but having attended a previous trip with Sparkle should not prevent a young person from applying for a space on these experiences.

Activities

For these residential stays we will be staying at the Calvert Trust in Exmoor, which is a specialist outward-bound centre.

Trip 1 and 2

The one-night activity programme provides a wide and diverse range of outdoor activities which would meet the needs of each individual we currently support within Sparkle.

Activities include:

• Rock Climbing Tower, Abseiling, High Ropes, Zip Wire

• Kayaking and Canoeing

• Crate stacking

• Accessible cycling

• Horse riding and carriage driving

• Archery

• Bush craft

Trip 3

Those young people wanting to attend the four night experience will participate in the “I can do it” programme. This programme is aimed at 16-25 year olds who are transitioning into adult life. These courses are about facilitated personal development, offering an exciting mix of outdoor activities with basic life skills and include an expedition day aimed at building independent living skills.

Costings

A set charge will be required for each trip:

• For a one-night stay there is a charge of £25.

• For the four-night stay there is a charge of £200. (This is a highly subsidised trip by Sparkle and the charge only represents 22% of the overall £883 cost per child).

Sparkle is committed to ensuring that all young people have the same opportunity to attend the residential experiences and has a hardship fund in place to support applications. Please discuss this option with the Lisa Thomas (Sparkle Team Leader) or Jayne Jones (Family

Liaison Officer).
