TSB Employees Conquer Everest for Sparkle Children’s Charity

TSB, Commercial Street, Newport, have been dedicated Sparkle Appeal supporters for many years. Each year, Branch Community Champion Beth Rogers, organises a group challenge which her team of staff volunteers complete at the branch. Previously they have cycled branch to branch on a static bike, rowed across the channel on a rowing machine and now they have climbed to the top of Mount Everest on a step machine. They started on Monday 4th of March and completed the gruelling challenge at midday on Friday 8th March. The team took turns on the step machine whilst also helping customers and collecting donations. The Lord Mayor of Newport got the team off to a good start by completing the first leg, which is not easy to do in a suit and chains! Sparkle Ambassador, Cardiff born Paralympian, Jordan Howe, completed the last leg. Beth said, “I love supporting Sparkle, I was involved before the Serennu Centre was built, back in the days when they were based at St Woolos, TSB have now supported and raised money for 3 years and our support will not be ending there. We have rowed, cycled and now climbed for Sparkle and the next challenge will be to complete a marathon a day for a week on a treadmill. Our climb to the summit of Mount Everest has raised over £1000, that’s in just one week, our customers and staff members have been so generous”. St Mary’s Primary School choir joined the TSB team to sing to customers and passers-by, which was a perfect way to end a tough week of fundraising. Gemma Sandhu, Marketing and Communications Manager for Sparkle states, “the continued support from Beth and the team at TSB is wonderful. On behalf of the children, young people and staff at Serennu, thank you to everyone in branch for putting your legs through this amazing challenge, you are all true Sparkle superstars”
