Many of you may be aware that Sparkle temporarily suspended its services for children and young people with disabilities and development difficulties at the Serennu children’s centre on the 17th March, 2020 following Welsh Government (WG) guidance concerning the COVID19 pandemic.

We have really missed the children over the past few months, and we know that our young people have also found this period very difficult.  We have been working hard to ensure that we can restart our specialist clubs and activities, while ensuring the safety of the children and staff. I am delighted to inform you that following approval by the Welsh Government (WG), we are now in a position to re-start some of our leisure activities with effect from Monday 6th July. These activities will continue to run throughout the Summer, subject to any changes in WG guidance.

We wish to reassure you that we have taken all of the necessary measures to ensure compliance with WG guidelines in order to minimise the risk of infection and community spread. We will be instituting strict hygiene measures within the centre and its grounds and we will be following the health and safety protocols below for children and young people attending the centre:

•       Prior to every session a Sparkle staff member will contact the family by telephone to check that the household is free of Covid-19 symptoms;

•       When the children/young people arrive at the centre, they will be greeted at the car by a Sparkle member of staff who will take the child/young person’s temperature using a non-contact thermometer to ensure their temperature is within the normal range and then take the child/young person into the centre, supporting them to wash their hands on arrival;

•       Sparkle staff members will return the children/young people after a session/ or if called to collect their child/ young person early, ensuring the children/young people are supported to wash their hands on departure;

•       Parents/carers are asked to stay in their car, and not to enter the building unless asked to do so by a staff member.

Should you have any concerns or queries, then please do not hesitate to contact our Sparkle lead COVID safety officers Jayne Jones and Melissa Pockett on 01633 748000.
