Independent Living Skills financial education session with HSBC

Independent Living Skills financial education session with HSBC

Recently, Rory Sullivan and Allison Gilson, from the HSBC UK Financial Education Team, visited Serennu Children's Centre, to lead a session on Budgeting Skills, with the Independent Living Skills Club.

the lesson forms part of the HSBC UK Financial Capability Programme, which aims to help young people learn about money.

Thr programme covers a range of financial skills useful for work and life in general. The sessions are mapped closely to school curricula and support the objectives of the Money and Pensions Service 2023 strategy to give 2 million more children access to meaningful Financial Education.

In a session called 'Making Wise Choices', the students in the Independent Living Skills Club were challenged to think about their purchase choices, in order to distinguish between needs and wants. They explored the importance of prioritising needs over wants when preparing an effective budget.

the visit was a great success, with all students taking an active part in the proceedings - there was certainly some interesting group discussions about what constitutes a need!

Commenting on the session, Rory Sullivan said:

"It has been a privilege to meet the students in the Independent Living Skills Club, their engagement and enthusiasm was brilliant!"

Thank you to Rory and Allison from HSBC for visiting!
